Music is a huge part of my life, and I love KCRW, LA’s own public radio station.  It is arguably one of the most influential stations in the country.

I think KCRW’s slogan nail’s it – For the Curious. I’ve read that there is one directive for the station’s DJs, “play what you love”, and that passion shows in each DJ’s eclectic mixes.

Playlists range from classics to emerging artists across multiple genres. My favorite DJ is Raul Campos – he is on air Saturdays and Sundays 3-6 pm PST. I hope you’ll check him out if you aren’t already a listener. Other favorites are Jason Bentley and Anne Litt.

If you don’t live in the LA area, you can download the KCRW app and enjoy the live stream. And to be clear… I do NOT work for KCRW and am not getting paid to write this! I just love the station that much.

I’m really excited because it is now time for their annual Summer Nights series, when free events and concerts are held in the LA area from June through September. Great music and fun will be hosted by KCRW DJ’s all over the city, in Santa Monica, Westwood, Century City, Chinatown, Pasadena and Anaheim.

A few of the artists I’m excited to see perform:

Santa Monica Pier Twilight Concert Series
July 7 – Mayer Hawthorne (sound is reminiscent of Steely Dan)
July 21 – Psychedelic Furs (takes me back to the 80’s!)
August 4 – Natalia Lafourcade  (she won 4 Latin Grammys in 2015) and Monsieur Perine (2015 Best New Artist Latin Grammy Winner)
Annenberg Space for Photography (Century City)
July 9 – Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (local indie folk rock band)

Here is a link to the most current schedule. There are still some talent announcements pending. I hope you have the chance to experience many of the events. Enjoy!
