It’s almost the weekend, when you’ll have time to catch up with friends and family, get your house in order, and maybe save a dog!  I love this quote: “Saving a dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.”  It’s so true. My husband and I have rescued 4 dogs over the years – while we gave them a home and freed them from the shelter, they’ve given us so much more – unconditional love, happy (sometimes hysterically funny) memories, and enriched our lives – truly a win win for all parties.  I can’t imagine a life without dogs.

I’m starting a regular post showcasing a dog that is looking for it’s forever home, from an amazing animal rescue group here in LA, The Rescue Train (read more about the group here).

Check out the profile of Skye below, provided by The Rescue Train. I hope you’ll be inspired to make arrangements to meet her, or that you’ll spread the word with your friends and family about this beautiful girl!

We pulled this gorgeous 1-year-old Husky/Shepherd mix from the East Valley Animal shelter where she came in as a stray. She’s now on The Rescue Train with a one-way ticket to your heart! Skye has super model looks and is extremely smart. She has a sweet and solid temperament. She’s a show stopper and gets a lot of attention where ever she goes.

We’ve had the luck to have her fostered by a certified professional dog trainer so we have a lot of insight to this spectacular dog. Skye has a lot of energy and is strong (huskies are bred to pull sleds). She needs an active person who has the time and effort to work with her at this young age and provide lots of positive reinforcement. She would make a great running or hiking partner. She would be a blast to do agility training or nose works with. She is extremely intelligent which makes training fun. Nothing makes her happier than to be told she’s a good girl!

Skye is very sweet with people. Sometimes she doesn’t know her own size and tries to be a lap dog which we are working on in her training. She’s a big kisser. Although she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body she would not be the best match for small children as she could knock them over.

Skye would do best in a home with another playful dog close to her size (60lbs) and age and that’s what we are looking for to set her up for success. Skye gets along with dogs and even dog savvy cats but she wants to PLAY, PLAY, PLAY! She can be too rambunctious for smaller or senior animals.

We are looking for an owner that has had experience with large breed dogs and understands drawing boundaries for an animal in a positive and communicative way. She is crate trained and her new family must be willing to use this tool to give her structure and then gradual freedom. She will need a secure yard.

Skye has all the makings of a perfect dog in the right home. She’s a volunteer favorite. We all see how special she is on The Rescue Train!
